The timing of caffeine post-workout is critical. If you’re an athlete who trains multiple times a day or has another session within 24 hours, taking caffeine with carbs right after training can be a smart move.

This maximizes glycogen storage during that “super-compensation” window.

A great example is Mateo, a CrossFit athlete I worked with. During competition week, he faced several intense events per day. Initially, he struggled to maintain his energy output.

But once we added caffeine alongside carbs right after each session, his recovery improved dramatically, and he maintained strength and explosiveness across all events.

As for dosage, research often points to 3–6 mg of caffeine per kilogram of bodyweight. However, I rarely go that high post-workout because of the risk of overstimulation.
